Topic Ideas for August’s Content
#1 – 2016 Summer Olympic Games
Kicking off in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on August 5th, the 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be a hot topic in August and surely our news feeds will be filled with content related to the athletes and sports. Check recaps each day to see Olympic highlights you can mention in your marketing. Here’s some examples of messaging we’ve seen used successfully:
- “You can be strong like ________ (athlete) too, kick off a new workout routine today with our ____________ class”
- If you offer children’s programs/classes, create messaging around Olympic hopeful training.
- If you offer boxing, martial arts or MMA classes, create messaging around training like the Olympians. Including specific athletes is ideal, but wait to see who the most popular are.
There are so many ways to leverage this media trend, so start here and do some brainstorming with your staff to come up with what works well for your brand.
#2 – National Simplify Your Life Week is the first week of August
Write up a fun list for your blog of ways your followers could simplify their life. You can relate this to fitness and health or not. Make sure to add something like “In honor of National Simplify Your Life Week…” so that prospects and customers will get the reference. Post something fun about it on social media with a link to it and add the content to your marketing campaign. You could also write an article specific to your fitness business, something like “Simplify Your Life with Xpress Fitness Studio’s jump start program. We’ve already thought through your workout program and meal plan.”
#3 – Back to School Time
Most parents will have a little extra time now that the kids are back in school. You can market a “back to school” special for parents to get back into their workout routine. Many students (18-24 years old) move away for the summer. Target the college-aged demographic and promote a new back to school special or intro offer. If you have children’s classes you can promote a new schedule that complements the school schedule. This topic can be used in many different ways as well!

It’s a good best practice to check through these resources on a weekly basis to see if you can incorporate trends in your marketing efforts. Don’t forget the relevant hashtags!
